“As the senior geotechnical engineer, with duties at various offices and projects that take me around Australia, I have been most pleased with the email messaging system that allows me to keep track of just how the system is performing. As soon as I’m reconnected to my emails I can see if the system has been in operation, whether or not the prisms are all being monitored and if the movement rates have breached set threshold values. I have also been able to connect directly into our control computer to check and change things, although this can be a bit slow at times. It is very comforting to know that your system is up and running when you are off site. Bernie has wanted me to trial a text messaging system that does much of the same thing but to date I’ve been a bit reluctant and afraid it might wake my wife if I leave the phone on at night!”

Bruce Hutchison, Senior Geotechnical Engineer Grange Savage River, Tasmania

“We have been recommending Quikslope as a comprehensive slope monitoring package for several years. The software eliminates the often observed mistake in spreadsheet analyses where line plots have been used instead of X/Y plots. This is in particular a problem for analysing the rate of movement, a critical element when assessing the possible onset of a slope failure and hence can pose a safety risk. Quikslope also provides a good idea of the scatter that can occur in prism readings. This is particularly useful to see the magnitude of survey error. The software integrates the location with the pit survey, something that all practitioners need. Lastly understanding the vector of movement is essential for understanding the mechanism of failure. Softrock in our experience is dedicated to improving safety at mines and we endorse this approach.”

Dr Phil Dight, Professor of Geotechnical Engineering University of Western Australia

“Quikslope is regarded as a powerful tool for management of large prism monitoring networks, and accurate analysis of prism data. The accessible and responsive support is highly valuable.”

Peter Lamb, BFP Consultants PTY. LTD.

“With increased focus on wall stability and prism monitoring in today’s age Softrock Solutions has made the task of monitoring much more manageable. At SDGM we have used both the ATS and Quikslope software with much success and I would urge anyone with thoughts in this area to look into these options. The system proves its worth rapidly on any site.”

Mark Briggs, Mine Technical Coordinator Sunrise Dam Gold Mine AngloGold Ashanti Australia

“Slope monitoring utilising prisms is a fundamental in understanding the slope performance and allowing reconciliation of this performance against design. I believe Softrock’s systems, whether Quikslope or Autoslope, make the acquisition, storage, manipulation, interrogation and review of this data a simple and efficient part of every surveyor’s and geotechnical engineer’s daily duties.”

Will Sarunic, Geotechnical Engineer

“The system is wonderful because it operates day and night and sends an alert to the operator wherever they are at that time. This technology is marvelous because an immediate response can be taken anytime anywhere when dangers arise. Mining operations are conducted day and night therefore Autoslope monitoring system meets the needs of the mining regulations. It assures 24 hour safety to the staff and equipment in the pit. If the instrument calibration is done well and there is no movement at the observation station and reference prism, then this system is perfect.”

Raymond Ansa-Asare, Chief Mine Surveyor Tanzania

“Softrock ATS forms an integral role in the slope stability management system at Lihir Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea where it has been operating successfully since 2004. Currently, we have three stations reading a total of 83 prisms in 8 groups covering two mining pits and a recent landslide. Despite occasional operational problems, the ATS has performed well and remote or on-site backup by Softrock is always available.”

Joseph Gough, Senior Geotechnical Engineer Lihir Gold Ltd ( Now principle of Insite Geology)
